NEURO OPD
An outpatient department (OPD) in neurology is where patients go for consultations regarding neurological conditions. Our department deals with the diagnosis and management of disorders affecting the nervous system, including the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves.
Common conditions treated in a neurology OPD include:
- Headaches and migraines
- Epilepsy and seizures
- Stroke
- Multiple sclerosis
- Parkinson’s disease
- Neuropathy
- Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease
- Muscle disorders
- Sleep disorders
During a visit, patients typically undergo a detailed history-taking, neurological examination, and may be referred for additional tests like MRI, CT scans, EEG, or nerve conduction studies if required. Our aim is to diagnose the condition accurately and manage it through medications, therapies.
NEURO INVESTIGATIONS
Neuro investigations, or neurological investigations, are a set of diagnostic procedures used to assess and diagnose conditions affecting the nervous system, which includes the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves. Common neuro investigations include:
1)Electroencephalography (EEG): Measures electrical activity in the brain and is often used to diagnose epilepsy and other brain disorders.
2)Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS) and Electromyography (EMG): Assess the electrical activity of nerves and muscles, helping diagnose conditions like neuropathy and myopathy.
3) Repetitive nerve stimulation: Repetitive nerve stimulation (RNS) is a diagnostic non-invasive procedure used primarily to assess the function of neuromuscular junctions, which are the sites where nerve cells connect with muscles to control their movement. It is often used in the evaluation of neuromuscular disorders, such as myasthenia gravis, Lambert-Eaton Myasthenic Syndrome (LEMS), Botulism.
4) Evoked Potentials: Record the electrical response of the brain to sensory stimuli (visual, auditory, or somatosensory), used to assess sensory pathway function.
These investigations help in diagnosing various neurological conditions such as neuropathies, myopathies, demyelinating disorders like multiple sclerosis and GBS, seizures, brain tumors, and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.
