Spinal cord diseases are of 2 types. Primary spinal cord injury occurs due to local spine deformation, such as direct compression. Secondary spinal cord injury occurs due to electrolyte disturbances, infection and inflammation. Spinal cord injury can be classified as complete or incomplete. Complete spinal cord injury leads to the loss of all motor and sensory functions below the level of injury. Incomplete spinal cord injury causes partial loss of functions.
