Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is an injury to the brain from an external mechanical force. TBI can generally be classified as either closed or penetrating. Most commonly caused by fall, accidents, industrial injuries, and sports injuries. Patients present with seizures, vomiting, changes in level of consciousness, weakness of limbs, raised intracranial pressure (headache, vomiting, blurring of vision). Traumatic brain injury is a leading cause of death and disability. Treatment of patients with TBI should be aimed at the prevention of secondary injuries and facilitating rehabilitation.
